Description
Title: | LZmE_330 - October Sky #2, Luangwa River, SLNP, Luangwa Valley, E Zambia |
Caption: | Storm clouds build over the Luangwa River in October, in advance of the annual rains. The dynamic nature of the Luangwa River provides an annual renewal of wildlife habitats in the Luangwa Valley. The river snakes its way through the sandy floor of the valley, eroding its own banks and frequently changing course. Ox-bows are formed as the river cuts across loops to take the most direct route, leaving behind lagoons. These are flooded annually between December & March, and give rise to rich riverine woodland habitats, which support one of Africa's greatest and most varied concentrations of wildlife. |
