This exhibition presents the initial work in the Spirit of the Land project. It includes impressions of the landscapes of Zambia in its Northern, far North Eastern, Eastern and Southern areas.
Zambia, being mostly a plateau land, is often described as being flat and featureless. The work in this exhibition seeks to show this perception as far from true. Much of this region is filled with the incredibly resilient and beautiful Miombo Woodland - the dominant vegetation type of the Central African Plateau. The plateau edges form dramatic transitions down to the lower riverine valleys; away from well-travelled roads there are mountains and escarpments; magnificent rivers & waterfalls, lakes and forests; expanses of grasslands & dambos; huge wetlands and flood plains; and some very special habitats such as high altitude montane and 'Mushitu' relic rain forests. But to see this, it's necessary to travel off the beaten track.
The work was done in several expeditions often combining bush-track vehicle travel with foot expeditions into the more remote and inaccessible areas.
