Description
Title: | LZmL_222 - Lumangwe Falls, Kalungwishi River, N Zambia |
Caption: | The last sunrays of the day light the Kalungwishi waters as they approach the edge of the falls. The Kalungwishi is one of several major rivers that drain the Congo Basin waters of Northern Zambia into Lake Mweru on the border with DR Congo. The outflow from Lake Mweru eventually joins the Congo River. Zambia's abundant water resource arises as a result of the country's location astride the Zambezi-Congo Watershed - the Zambezi Basin waters draining east and south into the Zambezi and thence to the Indian Ocean, and the Congo Basin Waters draining west and north via the Congo River and into the Atlantic Ocean. The remote Kalungwishi River forms the border between the Northern and Luapula provinces of Zambia. There are 4 large waterfalls on the Kalungwishi River's lower section, before it flows into Lake Mweru near Mununga. They are Chimpempe Falls, Lumangwe Falls, Kabwelume Falls and Kundabwika Falls. The spectacular Lumangwe Falls is a Zambia National Monument and is sometimes referred to as "the Victoria Falls of the North". |
